10 Ideas for Random Acts of Kindness Day

At Y.O.U Underwear, we’re all about giving back and being kind to people, the planet and our bodies. In anticipation of Random Acts of Kindness Day on Thursday 17th February, we’re sharing some of our favourite bighearted gestures.

Kindness is truly contagious and proven to benefit your mental health. So, why not join us in celebrating by spreading goodwill throughout your community this week and beyond. Not sure where to start? Here are 10 random acts of kindness sure to put a smile on anybody’s face.

1) Hand out compliments

You don’t have to splash out on extravagant gifts to be kind. We know from experience that when you compliment strangers, they go on to repay that favour to others. Without realising it, you might have started a chain reaction of praise!

2) Pay it forward

A random act of kindness is for those moments where you least expect it, like at your local coffee shop. When you’re next queuing for your hot beverage of choice, why not also pay for the stranger behind you? You can pay it forward practically anywhere, like at a supermarket, at the cinema and even in a car park.

3) Leave an inspiring note

Picture the scene: you’re having a bad day until you spot a post-it note which says “you are beautiful”. It instantly lifts your mood. Leaving aspirational reminders around your workplace or shopping centre is guaranteed to brighten up somebody’s day.

4) Reach out to a loved one

It can be hard to find the right moments to tell someone you care. Actively taking the time out of your day to pick up the phone or post that letter can make the difference between a ‘meh’ and a brilliant day. When you make the effort for others, they’ll always make the effort for you.

5) Gift a stranger flowers

You don’t need to wait for a special occasion to hand somebody a bouquet, so why not make a stranger’s day by gifting them some flowers?! We personally think it’s a blooming marvellous idea.

6) Go litter picking

When the planet is just as deserving of our generosity, litter picking helps to better your local community and environment. It’s one small way to make our world a kinder place to live in.

7) Donate used books

You know that great feeling when you’ve finished a good book? Help others feel the same by passing your favourite reads on. You could even start a pop-up library for your neighbours and encourage others to share the joy of reading.

8) Leave a positive review

Have you experienced great customer service lately? Well, let the world know by leaving a positive review and tell your friends. Because every time you support a small business, you make somebody dance with joy.

9) Carry somebody’s shopping

We all know the struggle of juggling heavy grocery bags. Take the weight off somebody’s shoulders by offering to take their shopping into their car or home. Their gratitude will stay with you for days.

10) Volunteer your time

Time is a precious gift; that’s why they call it the present. Setting aside time for others is perhaps the greatest donation you can make. Maybe that’s volunteering at your local homeless shelter, babysitting for free or visiting your family.

Bonus: pass it on

Kindness is something we are taught, so why not inspire your friends to join in on the fun. Small attentive gestures have a ripple effect, spreading happiness further with every encounter.
