This Black Friday, Choose to Shop Small
On Black Friday, we're not here to push you to buy more. We never offer discounts for Black Friday, because we don't want to encourage buying things for the sake of it, and as we pay our factories and employees a living wage, we can't cut costs.
Instead, we prefer to highlight the impact you can have when you choose to shop small. Shopping locally with your favourite businesses boosts local economies and helps communities to thrive. Plus, you can make lower waste choices and buy high quality, thoughtfully produced items.
When you shop with Y.O.U Underwear, your money not only supports us as an independent business, you also support our positive pants mission with our Buy One Give One donations. As usual, this year we will plant a tree for every online order placed over the Black Friday weekend (28th November - 1st December inclusive) to create a positive environmental impact. Last year, that was 26 of you, meaning another 26 trees going into our Y.O.U forest 🌳
Thank you for helping us change the world - one pair of pants at a time - & for helping small businesses thrive!

Small Choices, Big Impact
Our year round commitment is to people. We will never compromise on fair wages and ethical working practices. And our Buy One Give One promise means we support those who don't have access to underwear, aiming to reduce barriers to education, work, and hygiene. When you shop with us, we donate one pair of underwear for every pair sold, through our charity partner Smalls for All.
When you choose to shop with small businesses, your money has a big impact. Around 99% of UK businesses are small and medium sized enterprises and we rely on the support of our communities to keep the local economy thriving. Shopping with local, independent businesses means you are supporting local livelihoods, small scale sustainable production, and higher quality purchases. This Black Friday weekend, choose better, not more.

It's no secret that the fashion industry has a huge problem with waste, and Black Friday sales are a big contributor to this. Instead of pressurising you to buy more things you don't need, we wanted to focus on what you've saved!
Since beginning our take back underwear recycling scheme in 2020, we have diverted 689.2kgs of textiles from landfill. By working with Cotton Lives On and Naturalmat we can give old underwear a new lease of life and cut down on waste!

So why does shopping small matter?
With an estimated total spend of £3.9 billion by UK shoppers this year, Black Friday is hugely important for big retailers. But 1 in 10 shoppers don't even use their Black Friday purchases and the pressure to grab a bargain can feel hard to ignore - even for something you don't need!
This spending boom creates huge amounts of waste, transport pollution, and unnecessary buying, while distracting from the issues of worker exploitation and environmental degradation. That's why, at Y.O.U Underwear we stand firm, with no flash discounts and no pressure to over-consume. Just ethically and sustainably made essentials - all year round.
So please support us, by playing any small part you can in having a positive impact on small business. Thank you!
Sarah & the Y.O.U Team x
