Are your Cleaning Products Impacting your Hormones?
Introduction to MadeKind
The recent good weather and fresh air has put us in the mood for some spring cleaning. The Y.O.U team have been dusting, sweeping, and mopping in our Oxford Covered Market shop to get everything looking spick and span in time for summer.
Thanks to our friends at MadeKind, we can avoid using chemicals in our cleaning products which are harmful to the environment and often produced unsustainably.

On top of the environmental consequences, many of the chemicals found in regular cleaning products can also have negative effects on our health. Finding out about the impact that some of the ingredients in everyday cleaning products can have on our hormones was one of the major reasons for Caroline and Anita to set up their own company producing natural cleaning products which won’t disrupt your health.
Chemicals and hormones
Our complex hormonal systems, which control and regulate many of the processes in our bodies - such as our metabolism, immunity and reproduction - are vital for overall good health. Shockingly, endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDC's) are commonly found in everyday cleaning products and can have an adverse effect on delicately balanced hormonal systems.

Some of these chemicals mimic or block our natural hormones leading to hormonal imbalances. These imbalances can affect fertility, sperm quality, and estrogen levels, sometimes contributing to endometriosis. Our respiratory and immune systems can also be compromised by exposure to EDCs.
It can be incredibly difficult to avoid harmful chemicals in a world where they seem to be appearing in everything, from our clothes to our food. However, there are certain major culprits to be aware of when purchasing cleaning products.
Parabens, phthalates, triclosan, and synthetic fragrances are key ingredients to look out for and avoid on cleaning labels. Make sure to keep windows open during and after cleaning to ensure good ventilation, reducing the risk of airborne chemicals in your home.
MadeKind's range of natural, plant-based cleaning products are perfect for ensuring that you aren't putting yourself or your family into contact with any of these nasty hormonal disruptors.
MadeKind's cleaning formulas:
- Are biodegradable and contain no synthetic fragrances, instead opting for essential oils.

We love MadeKind’s home cleaning and hand & body care products for their commitment to effective cleaning without harsh chemicals or excessive plastic packaging. Their gorgeous amber glass bottles also look subtly stylish in any kitchen or bathroom!

We know from speaking to lots of our customers how important it is for them to avoid unnecessary and harsh chemicals for their bodies, homes, and the environment. Similarly to how dyes and treatments on textiles can lead to skin irritation and allergies, cleaning products can have harmful adverse reactions.
By using organic cotton we chose to avoid pesticides and other potentially harmful chemicals coming into contact with skin. By using MadeKind cleaning and home products, we are choosing to do the same for our surfaces!
