A Guide to Cotton Bralettes - 6 Key Questions Answered

Bra shopping can be a bit of a nightmare. With so many styles to choose from it's hard to know what each of them can provide. We often find that customers want different things from their bras and it needs to be right for you.

If you've been thinking about buying a cotton bralette then we are here for you! Check out our bralette guide to learn more and find your perfect new style.

What is a cotton bralette?

Cotton bralettes are usually a style of bra that’s lighter and softer and doesn’t use underwiring. Cotton bralettes are designed to offer light support and to sit smoothly on the body for ultimate comfort and style. They are usually a pull-on style that doesn't have a back clasp like other more traditional bras

The no-wire bralette style is a simple and elegant shape that can be worn in the same way as a regular bra and is great for avoiding that uncomfortable and digging in feeling that often comes with an underwire bra.

If you’re looking for an everyday bra style you won’t be rushing to take off at the end of the day, our Y.O.U Underwear cotton bralettes are super soft and comfortable with triangle shaped cups offering light support. Crafted from our sustainable organic cotton fabric they’re designed to sit comfortably under the bust in a pull on style which means no itchy clasps!

The cotton bralette features adjustable straps which can also be crossed over, creating a racer back bralette style meaning it’s great under a range of different tops. This feature also makes the fit slightly more snug and holds the boobs in place a little more.

Which body types can wear a cotton bralette?

All body types! Our underwear range is designed to be inclusive and to offer options for all shapes, sizes, and ages.

Lots of our customers love the soft bralette style because they’re looking for something they can wear all day long without getting uncomfy and that offers light support without being constrictive. Our cotton bralette is available in sizes XS to L, offering support up to approximately a D cup. If you need a bra style with more support, take a look at our Non-wired bras - the same super soft organic cotton fabric but designed for added support and coverage.

You might find you love the cotton bralette for wearing every day or you might prefer to treat yourself to luxurious lounge time and wear it for relaxed days at home - or even to sleep in.

Is it better to wear a bra or a bralette?

The choice is yours! Whether you’re looking for comfortable and light support or something with a more secure fit, the important thing is that you feel good! Taking the time to try on different sizes and styles will give you a good idea of what you’re looking for. You might also discover that you like a bralette some days and a bra other days!

Are cotton bralettes healthy for you?

This soft bralette style means your boobs won’t be feeling squashed down or uncomfortably hitched up, meaning added comfort without sore boobs.

The eco-friendly organic cotton fabric means you can avoid itchy synthetics that trap heat next to the skin, swapping them for smooth and breathable natural fibres with 5% elastane to allow for comfortable stretch and help retain the shape after wear.

Our customers with eczema and skin issues love the organic cotton fabric to avoid irritation in sensitive areas and allows the skin to breathe without trapping sweat and bacteria.

How to choose the right size cotton bralette

As we all know, finding the right size for a bra can be tricky. We use this size guide for our organic cotton bralette style, so you can choose a size aligned to your usual bra or dress size.

Preferences vary and you might feel you want to wear a slightly looser size for comfort or a more close fitting size for a firmer support. If you are between sizes, we usually would recommend sizing down as the fabric will soften slightly over time meaning the sizing may feel ever so slightly more relaxed. On all our bra styles, you can adjust and cross over the straps to make it comfy for you.

If you’ve decided to invest in a cotton bralette then the only thing left to do is pick a colour! We have a range of stylish as well as vibrant prints. Go classic with a black bralette or a white bralette, or opt for flattering light blue or grey for a pretty and light option. If you’re planning to wear your cotton bralette under light tops, we recommend our three nude tones or light pink for an invisible look. For something more unique, check out our African inspired mara prints for bright and colourful undies! These patterns make for great gifts too!

Our mission

At Y.O.U Underwear, we're all about spreading the positive power of pants and our vision is that every has their own pair. Y.O.U stands for Your Own Underwear because we believe everyone deserves exactly that. We started this business with the aim of tackling period poverty by donating underwear for every pair that we sell. We work closely with our charity partner Smalls for All who distribute underwear across several countries in Africa and in the UK. Their work offers dignity for people experiencing barriers to underwear such as poverty or homelessness. Donations for women and girls mean one less obstacle to work and education, particularly during their periods.
