Moving into our new home | Y.O.U Brighton

You may have heard...we've opened a second shop! Our new home is nestled in Brighton's North Laine, amongst a host of wonderful, independent businesses. We're so excited to bring our organic cotton underwear and loungewear to the people of Brighton, but how does it actually happen? In this blog, we're going to take you through the process of moving into our new home...

...

Getting the keys was one of the best days so far this year, even though we knew we still had a mountain to climb. Expanding our sustainable business to Brighton is a dream come true, one that couldn’t have happened without the support of Enterprise Nation and Vistaprint, whose ‘Realising the Remarkable’ grant has made this all possible.

Image of two people holding a large cardboard key together, standing in front of an empty shop. They both smile at the camera. There are posters in the windows. Our premises had been empty for a while, so our first task was to get it looking spic and span. Getting the posters off the windows was a mission, followed by lots of cleaning to make them sparkling. The windows were then ready for the addition of some big Y.O.U posters, so that passers-by knew we were coming…

Collage of three images. The top left shows a man in a blue t-shirt removing posters from a shop window, and cleaning with a yellow sponge. The central image is an exterior shot of a shop front, with large Y.O.U posters in the window, and a blue 'LET BY' sign. The bottom right image shows the same man sticking up the large posters from the inside of the shop,.Inside the building, it was painting time! We’ve gone for a soft Brighton green, to bring a calming, organic feel to the shop, whilst adding a pop of colour.

In keeping with the vibrant murals of Brighton, we’ve added our own stamp onto the outside of our building. These beautiful, curvy bodies were painted by Amy (@amyislesfreeman), representing our commitment to inclusivity and promoting self-love.Two images: one shows a painter sat on scaffolding painting a mural. The other shows a finished mural of a curvy illustrated body wearing blue underwear

Now, to figure out our displays. We’re taking a lot of stock down to Brighton with us: all of our women’s underwear, men’s underwear, girls' range and loungewear, in all of our sizes, of course. We always want to have one of each size on display in every style, to give our customers an inclusive and accessible shopping experience.

We’re using the same recycled cardboard hangers that we use in our Oxford shop, as well as recycled ocean plastic ones to minimise our environmental impact. We’re also sourcing display cabinets and other furniture second-hand, and using reclaimed scaffold boards and rails for our main display areas.

Two images: one shows socks laid out in piles on a table in the foreground, and a wall display in the background. The other shows three rails of brightly coloured brasWe have built our changing rooms at the back of the unit. Having a comfortable space where our customers can physically try on our products is really important to us. We want everyone to have the chance to try on multiple options to find their perfect fit, and to feel the super-soft organic cotton against their own skin. As with our Oxford shop, our Brighton changing rooms will be decorated with body-positive images and messaging, to make underwear try-ons as empowering as possible.

Once the canvas was primed, it was time to fill her up! Bit by bit, our new home is coming to life with our organic cotton beauties, as well as our favourite marketplace products. Splashes of colour were added through plants and bunting, et voila! Brighton… are you ready for us?

We hope to see you here in Brighton - or in our home shop in Oxford - soon!
