Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

As part of our commitment to being a business for good, we're working towards 5 of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Today we want to dive into Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.

What are the Sustainable Development Goals?

The Sustainable Development Goals are a set of environmental and social areas of focus set out by the United Nations General Assembly, 6 years ago in 2015. There are 17 goals in total, which focus on everything from inequality to education, climate action to peace and justice and are intended to be achieved by 2030.

Which Goals Are Y.O.U Underwear Focusing On?

We've selected 5 of the most relevant goals to focus on, and have outlined what we're doing for each one, in this blog post about the Sustainable Development Goals.  Today, we're focusing on one in particular: Goal 6.

What is Sustainable Development Goal 6?

Goal 6 is: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

Alongside providing underwear and improving sanitation for women and girls, we also donate to Just A Drop through purchases of our menstrual cups to support their work. Just a Drop help to provide sustainable sanitation, water and menstrual hygiene programs globally - including in Uganda, where the idea for Y.O.U Underwear started.

Our environmental impact also plays a role here, as we use 100% organic cotton that's certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard. Organic cotton creates 98% less water and soil pollution than conventional cotton as no pesticides or insecticides are used, as well as using 71% less water.

What are Y.O.U doing to support Goal 6?

We're partnering with Just a Drop to donate £1 from every sale in support of their Menstrual Hygiene Programme in the Wakiso District of Uganda. Your donation, through purchasing a menstrual cup, will help to support over 1,000 children with menstrual hygiene education and access to sustainable period products and soap.
